A REVELLER was left needing hospital treatment after he was attacked by thugs “for no apparent reason”.
The 32-year-old man was out socialising at the bars on Navigation Point, at Hartlepool Marina, when he was suddenly set upon by the attackers, who he did not know, around 10pm on Saturday night.
He suffered bruising and abrasions to his face and body and was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton, by ambulance.
Police were called to the scene and immediately launched an investigation into the incident.
A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: “A man suffered extensive bruising, an injury to his face and abrasions to his body.
“He’d been out and been in a licensed premises at Navigation Point when he was set upon by unknown people. It is believed to have been an unprovoked assault, for no apparent reason.”
Officers have arrested a 47-year-old man in connection with the assault and he has been bailed pending further inquiries.
