Roads are shut after gas alert

TWO roads were cordoned off in the early hours after reports of a gas leak.

Police, firefighters and Transco workers raced to Brougham Terrace and Lancaster Road, in Hartlepool, at around 2.40am today after an alert from a member of the public.

The roads were closed off until around 4.30am while gas units in the road were checked and found to be safe.

Police say there may still be a smell of gas in the area today, but are reassuring people there is no risk.

Sergeant Louise Sprosson, of Hartlepool Police, said: “There was a noise coming from one of the units and a member of the public had reported smelling gas.

“Everything was checked, there was no danger and nobody was put at risk.”
