TWO main roads have been shut after a lorry driver fell 30ft off a flyover.

Cleveland Police said his lorry had turned on to its side just past the sliproad which joins the A19 flyover, northbound, near Stockton, at 11am today.

A spokeswoman said: “The driver fell out of his lorry during the accident and has fallen off the flyover - a height of more than 30ft.

“The male driver was flown by air ambulance to Middlesbrough’s James Cook University Hospital with spinal and neck injuries.”

Police say there was also a diesel spillage at the scene and a full road closure is currently in operation on the A66 westbound and A19 northbound.

They are unsure how long the roads will be closed.
