PRINCESS Anne will be in our region next week as a village celebrates a key milestone.
The Princess Royal will be in Sedgefield on Wednesday when she will unveil a new market cross on the village green.
The royal visit is one of the highlights of Sedgefield’s celebrations to mark the 700th anniversary of the signing of the Sedgefield Market Charter.
She will be introduced to civic dignitaries and members of the Sedgefield 700 Group who have arranged a number of celebratory events throughout the year.
The princess will also get to see exhibitions from a variety of groups who run community activities including the local history group, Sedgefield in Bloom Committee and the Sedgefield Games organisers.
The visit is being hosted by Sedgefield Town Council,
“We are greatly honoured that Her Royal Highness is visiting Sedgefield and unveiling our new Market Cross,” said town clerk Lesley Swinbank.
“The 700 Group has been working with many local groups and organisations not only in designing the new sculpture but also to plan the numerous events which are taking place in Sedgefield during 2012.
“This is a unique year in Sedgefield and we are delighted that The Princess Royal is visiting us during Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.”
