The night will be held at Hartlepool Rugby Club (Old Boys) on June 24.

It will be the second time the former British and Irish Lion has come to Hartlepool, following a hugely successful event in 2014 which raised £10,000 for the hospice.

The night will include a curry supper and cheeseboard as well as an auction and raffle.

Those who attend will be entertained by a mix of stories from John’s colourful career.

The event at the rugby club is the latest in a number of projects between the club and the hospice as part of their charity partnership.

Greg Hildreth, a fundraiser at the hospice, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming John back to Hartlepool and are really looking forward to working with him again.

“All of the money raised will be used to fund our specialist palliative care services, which we provide free of charge to patients and families of Hartlepool and East Durham.

“I would also like to thank everyone at Old Boys for their support.”

Liam Lester, from Old Boys, added: “We are delighted to be working with our local hospice on another project and look forward to welcoming John back to Mayfield Park.

“He is one of the best on the after dinner circuit and has some fantastic stories to share.”

Tickets are £25 and can be reserved by calling the Hhospice on 01429 855529 or booking online at: www.hartlepoolhospice.co.uk.
