SCORES of young footballers helped raise money for exciting new developments at their ground in a successful sponsored run.

Members from around 20 Seaton Carew Juniors teams swapped their football boots for trainers for the annual event.

Around 200 enthusiastic runners took part as they were joined by coaches and family and friends.

They ran along the sea front from Hartlepool Marina to their Hornby Park ground where they relaxed with a barbecue.

Sponsorship will go towards Seaton Carew Sports and Social Club’s newly refurbished pitches and changing facilities.

Sarah Moat, manager of next season’s Under 9s side, said: “It was great.

“The sun shone which made it more pleasant than it had been recently and we had a good turnout.

“We won’t know how much we have raised until all the money is collected but it was a good day.”

Local community police also supported the event and helped the runners safely across the road.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Friday to celebrate the completion of the ground works after five years work.

Hartlepool MP Iain Wright will be among the invited guests to celebrate the milestone.
