A VILLAGE church is inviting people to an upcoming event to help carry out vital renovation works.
Greatham Independent Methodist Church is holding a sale of goods at Greatham Community Centre on Friday.
People are encouraged to go along to the sale which takes place between 3pm and 6pm.
Goods on sale will include toys, gifts, household wares, new and nearly new goods and light refreshments.
Proceeds will go to the church’s renovation fund which launched in the summer.
The small church is working to raise thousands of pounds towards important repair works.
Church treasurer Malcolm Stewart said: “We are getting money in bit by bit but it is coming on.
“We have got a little bit of money available but still need a lot more.
“We are waiting to get charity status which we hope to get in a couple of weeks and we will then apply to different companies for support.”
Repairs to the roof and windows are first on the list followed by the heating system.
The church in High Street dates back to 1883 and has been independent since 1961.
Previous high-profile supporters included Hartlepool shipbuilder Sir William Gray, who was a benefactor and regular attender.
The late businessman Reg Vardy also regularly preached at the church.
