A COMMUNITY cafe opened its doors to welcome dozens of people for a Christmas party.

The Burbank Community Cafe, at the Burbank Community Centre, in Hartlepool, held a festive gathering which attracted around 50 local residents.

There was a buffet provided by staff at the Place in the Park, based at Ward Jackson Park, as well as a raffle with around 10 prizes including a Christmas hamper.

The cafe has been running for around two years and provides a meeting place for people who might otherwise be lonely and isolated.

Bosses behind the cafe would like to see more people attending.

Ruth Stoddart, who is one of a number of volunteers who help to run the facility, said: “The party was brilliant, everybody enjoyed it and we had a great time.

“We had a lovely buffet and we had a good mix of about 50 people there, including a good crowd from the Havelock Centre, over the road.

“The cafe is running brilliantly, but we would like to see more people in.

“We would also welcome people from outside the Burbank area.”

The cafe is open from 9am-noon on Wednesdays and anyone wanting more information about the facility can call (01429) 275121.
