STAFF and youngsters at a children’s day nursery are looking to boost the coffers of a town charity by taking part in their own fun run race.
Scallywags Children’s Day Nursery, in Warrior Drive, Hartlepool, is to hold its very own Miles for Men-style event on Seaton Carew beach with youngsters taking on the half-mile route.
Miles for Men is a charity fun run in aid of Cancer Research UK and last year raised a mammoth £40,000.
It returns to Hartlepool on Sunday, July 28, and is the brainchild of organiser Michael Day, 39.
Nursery staff were keen to get involved and while some of the husbands and partners of the staff will be running the actual Miles for Men course, they also wanted to get the children involved.
Representatives from Miles for Men have arranged T-shirts for the children who will be running along a section of the beach on the afternoon of Friday, July 26.
Donna Jeffries, a cook at Scallywags, said: “We do something for charity every year and this year decided to help raise money for Miles for Men.
“Some of the husbands and parents of staff are doing the actual race, but I thought it would be nice to get the children involved.
“We are hoping to raise £2,000.”
Michael said: “It is great to have the support of Scallywags.”
Michael launched Miles for Men in memory of his dad Michael Senior, who died of throat cancer in 2007, aged 67.
The course starts at Maritime Avenue and finishes at Seaton Carew Cricket Club where there will be a fun day and live music.
Colourful comedian Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown will launch this year’s event.
