Hartlepool’s libraries will be joining in the fun with a range of free events to mark National Bookstart Week.

The Bookstart initiative is run by Booktrust, an independent national charity which encourages people of all ages – especially children – to become interested in books.

The theme of this year’s National Bookstart Week, from next Monday to Friday, is ‘Jungle Animals’.

There’s a host of themed sessions at the libraries for children aged under five and their parents/carers.

Each child who attends any of the sessions will receive a free copy of the book ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ by Giles Andreae and David Wojtowycz.

Also, families taking part in the Stories and Rhymes sessions will be entered into a free prize draw to win a family ticket to the Seven Stories Centre in Newcastle.

Heather Bellwood, Hartlepool’s children’s and outreach librarian, said: “Opening a book unlocks the door to a whole world of adventure, imagination and discovery.

“We’re inviting youngsters to come with us next week to explore the mysteries of the jungle.”
