A CHARITY initiative that is hoping to raise thousands of pounds for charities in Hartlepool is set to be launched.
The Peel2Save fundraising card has been described as a “win-win-win” for customers, businesses and good causes by co-ordinator for Hartlepool David Earle.
He said he is positive the initiative, which has run in the United States for several years and was successfully tested in Solihull in June, will help boost the town’s economy as well as helping charities.
It sees people buy a Peel2save card for £10 and it contains a range of discount offers at businesses including Pizza Hut, Tavistock and Farrar’s Restaurant, Liberty’s Hair & Beauty and even places to keep the children entertained such as UK Superbowl, Tweddle Farm and Mister Twisters.
For every £10 card that is sold, £5 goes to the worthy cause which sold it.
The initiative is hoped to raise £2.5m for charities nationally, with £50,000 of that being raised in Hartlepool.
“It’s a real community initiative, giving local businesses the opportunity to promote their businesses to local people,” he said.
“The offers have real value and broad appeal, there is something for everyone.”
The cards, which launch on August 22, cost £10 each and are valid for 12 months, with 64 individual peel-off coupons to use spread over 26 different local businesses, two of which are online.
“Anyone who spends £10 will soon re-coup their money and will have raised £5 for a charity or good cause”, added Mr Earle, as half of the sales of each card go to the charity where the card was purchased.
