School clerk is set to retire

A SCHOOL clerk who was taken on for a week's cover ended up staying for 21 years.

Popular Lynn Mason is now returing from her position as clerk at Rift House Primary School, in Masefield Road, at the end of this month.

Lynn, 62, is originally from Blackhall Rocks, but now lives in Redwood Close, in the Clavering area of Hartlepool.

The mum-of-two is looking forward to spending more time reading, walking and visiting her daughter in Hull.

Lynn, who has two grandchildren with a third on the way, said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the school. There is a backbone of staff who have been lovely to work alongside and I will miss the children the most.

"The job is different every day and that is one of the joys, it is always varied.

"I joined the school in October 1989 for a week's supply and ended up going full time in April 1990; I can still remember when it was all paper work."

Lynn, who is married to television engineer Ken, 62, will spend her last day at the school on January 27. The pair have two children Paul Mason, 36 and Suzanne Mason, 33.

Lynn added: "There are a couple of nights out planned and one or two things at the school, which I am not supposed to know about. It was lovely to see the parents of pupils who used to come to the school when they were young. There are quite a few families where that has happened at the school, which is lovely to see.

"I am probably about ready to retire and I plan to enjoy myself by reading a lot more, walking and spending time with the family."

Headteacher Jane Laycock said: "Lynn has been a tremendous servant to the school and all the staff and pupils are sad to see her go.

"She has served 21 years at the school and that is a great accolade in this day and age."
