A scooter rider who suffered serious injuries when he ended up trapped under a car following a crash, is still recovering in hospital.

The 46-year-old man, who was on a Lambretta scooter, suffered head and chest injuries when he was involved in a collision with a black Vauxhall Corsa, last Tuesday.

The crash happened on the A178 Tees Road near Seal Sands at about 4.15pm. It led to police closing the road for about three hours while emergency services tended to the injured man.

Police say the rider, who was taken to the James Cook University hospital in Middlesbrough, is in a “stable condition” in hospital.

Officers are still appealing to anyone with information to contact them. They are also keen to speak to the driver of a black pick-up vehicle, possibly a Mitsubishi, believed to have been ahead of the Corsa.

Anyone with information is asked to call Cleveland Police on 101.
