THE police helicopter was scrambled to reports of some trespassers suspected of stealing metal from a scrapyard.
The helicopter joined Hartlepool Police’s dog section following reports that someone had entered the yard, in Thomlinson Road, Hartlepool, around 4.45pm yesterday.
Three youths wearing dark clothing were spotted at the site by the dog section and chased to Brenda Road and a housing estate in the Belle Vue area.
One of the youths was arrested but released after further inquiries revealed it was not thought anything had been stolen from the yard.
Inspector Bernie Hanson, of Hartlepool Police, said: “The incident was reported by our dog section. The youths managed to get over a 12ft-high spiked fence.
“We spoke to the security officer and at this moment he doesn’t think anything was stolen.”
