SUPERMARKET staff are asking shoppers to give a gift and help troops fighting on the front line.

Tesco Extra, in Burn Road, Hartlepool, is taking part in the Support our Soldiers campaign.

The store has set up a collection point where people can donate an assortment of items from food to toiletries that will be shipped out in shoe boxes to soldiers on the front line in places such as Afghanistan.

The shoe boxes are being supplied by high street chain Clarks.

Selina Wilson, community champion at the store, said: “We are running an all year round appeal to support our soldiers.

“There will be a donation point in store and we would appeal to the local community to give as much as they can.”
