HARTLEPOOL will have its own taste of an American party to mark the biggest celebration on the USA calendar on Friday.
Independence Day sees the whole of the USA come to a standstill as Americans mark the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
And despite being thousands of miles from home, an American family in Hartlepool will mark the big day with a mini-party of their own at their business in Church Square.
Sisters Esther, 32, and Juiwanna Wright, 31, opened the Ranch House cafe and takeaway in September last year.
They work with their other sister Amber, 25, brothers Kenneth, 30, and Peter, 18, as well as mum Juiwanna at the eatery.
To mark July 4, the family will deck out their premises with flags and balloons and will have some special offers on their USA menu.
Esther said: “It’s a big day for all of us Americans, and even though we’re a long way from home we’ll still be celebrating.
“We’ll have our usual USA menu on, with some stars and stripes cupcakes and homemade lemonade. We’ll also have watermelons, which are always eaten at the parties on July 4 back home.
“All of the families in America get together and have barbecues and fireworks, and a real celebration. While we’ll miss it, we plan on having our own little party!”
