THE sunshine broke through the clouds for a primary school’s annual sports day.
Children from Greatham Church of England Primary School, in Egerton Terrace, Greatham Village, were full of excitement and smiles as they took part in their sporty afternoon.
And despite a dismal start to the day of the event, the sunshine burned through the mist for the contest which saw youngsters from the age of three to 11-years-old taking part in several races.
They enjoyed a sprint and an under-and-over hurdles-type event, along with egg-and-spoon, sack, and relay races.
There was also a javelin contest with the kids using foam and plastic spears.
Headteacher Nicola Dunn said: “I would say that a great day was had by all and I think it was a success.
“We had a lot of parents come along to watch the children as well, which is always nice.”
She added: “I think sports days are great for the children’s confidence and self esteem because they all get a chance to compete in a fun and light-hearted context.
“It’s a nice opportunity for them to have a go and take part with their peers.”
