THEY seem to have had just about everyone, everywhere talking about them and here is another chance to see the Poolie Smurfs on tour.
One hundred and seventy Pools fans who dressed as the comic-strip characters for Hartlepool United’s last game of the season at Charlton Athletic on Saturday caused quite a stir.
That much of a stir that at one point on Saturday lunchtime, Hartlepool was in the top 10 most talked about topics in the UK on social networking website Twitter.
The dedicated fans left Hartlepool before 7am as they embarked upon their adventure to the capital and they made plenty of friends along the way.
Mick Bell, 58, a Pools season ticket holder of 46 years who was one of the Smurf Army on Saturday, told the Hartlepool Mail how people were going out of their way to chat to the Smurfs and get photographs.
It isn’t the first time the fans have dressed up for the final game of the season.
It’s a tradition which has been running since 1987 – but never have the dedicated Pools supporters received such wide spread national coverage.
Television channels followed the Smurfs throughout the day with pictures and videos also circulating on Twitter, Facebook and the Mail’s website.
