A HARTLEPOOL-BORN university scholar was disappointed to see her team narrowly pipped at the post during a long-running TV quiz show.
Sarah Johnson and her fellow Oxford Brookes University team-mates crashed out of the quarter-finals of BBC2’s University Challenge on Monday night.
The team amassed 190 points, agonisingly short of the 195 scored by opponents York University.
Sarah, who was born in the town but moved to Bury St Edmunds, in Suffolk, with her parents Margaret and Graham Johnson, when she was young, said: “I’m just about getting over it. We put up a good fight and it was really close and they were a really nice team.”
The 32-year-old former Sacred Heart Primary School pupil, whose gran Mary Flanagan and other relatives still live in the town, said she may now apply to be on Mastermind, with a specialist subject of either Terry Pratchett or Jane Austen’s novels.
