A council-run children’s play centre now has its own opticians shop thanks to the support of a local business.

Specsavers Hartlepool has donated surplus equipment including glasses, eye test chart, posters and registration forms to Oscars, which is based next to West Rugby Club in Catcote Road.

Kate Barratt, playleader/co-ordinator with Oscars, said: “We are really grateful to Hartlepool Spescavers for their generosity and support.

“It has enabled us to create our own opticians within Oscars, which includes a registration point, waiting area, eye testing and a wide range of glasses.

“Children love role play and previously we’ve had our own bank, travel agency, a veterinary surgeon, post office and a restaurant.”

Ian Walker, director with Hartlepool Specsavers, said: “Hartlepool Specsavers is due for a refit soon so it’s great to put some of our surplus equipment to good use.”
