A POPULAR cafe is holding a special event for special Hartlepool mums.

A Place in The Park, at Ward Jackson Park, in Hartlepool, has organised a Traditional Afternoon Tea Mother’s Day event for children of all ages to treat their mums.

Grandmothers, mothers, children and all the family can book a place at the event on Sunday, March 30.

There will be two sittings of the afternoon tea, at 1pm and again at 3pm.

The cafe will have soft music playing in the background while mums are spoiled with a choice of freshly prepared sandwiches, including roast beef and horseradish, ham salad, tuna with mayonnaise and spring onion, mild cheese and tomato chutney, and egg and tomato.

They can then choose from a choice of deserts including, home-made fruit scones, or a selection of cakes.

There will also be unlimited pots of tea.

Maria Harrison, who runs the cafe and organised the event, said she just wanted to do something to treat Hartlepool mums.

But she advised people to a place beforehand to avoid disappointment if all the tables are full.

She said: “It’s just a real treat for all the mums outthere.

“And all the naughty things that mums don’t often like to eat will be served up for them to eat!

“It’s a day off from everything and a day that they can spoil themselves and do what they like.”

She added: “The Traditional Afternoon tea will be in the garden suite with some soft music playing in the background, things like Frank Sinatra. We hope people come along and enjoy themselves.”

The Mail reported last week how the Place in the Park’s playgroup was expanding to add another weekly session.

The group has ran on Thursdays from 9.30am until 11pm for several years but has become so popular that they are opening their doors at the same time on Tuesdays. The session costs £1.50. To book a mother’s day seat ring (01429) 405573.
