WITH spring here there is lots of opportunities at a local wildlife reserve for people to get out and explore the environment.

RSPB Saltholme, near Billingham, has a series of events for visitors of all ages throughout May.

The first is on Sunday when the latest in a series of guided walks takes place.

Knowledgeable and friendly volunteers will give you a potted history of the reserve and it’s surroundings as well as information on the wildlife, from plants to butterflies to birds.

All are welcome from the novice naturalist to the seasoned birder.

The walk can take up to three hours so suitable outdoor clothing is recommended.

Mobility scooters are available on request.

The walk starts at 12.30am and is free.

Saltholme’s Little Explorer’s Club for under fives next meet on Monday, May 26.

Youngsters can have fun both in and outside the classroom with crafts, stories and adventures.

It takes place from 10am-11.30am and costs £2 a child.
