A HARTLEPOOL school is looking forward to celebrating its centenary anniversary this summer and is appealing for help from past pupils and teachers.

St Cuthbert’s RC Primary School, in Hartlepool’s Stratford Road, reaches the landmark on August 16 and a number of centenary celebrations will be taking place in the week beginning July 7 before the staff and pupils break up for their summer holidays.

Pupils and families, past and present, are invited to the events which include a coffee morning, celebratory mass and party on the school field but school bosses need help for photos and memories to help mark the landmark.

Joanne Wilson, the school’s headteacher, said: “We would like past pupils to send in photos from when they were at school, just one or two of their favourites giving the year and names of people in the photos if possible.

“A display of old photos will be in school during our celebration week for all to visit.

“We are also hoping to make a book of memories and we hope that parents, grandparents or even great-grandparents may like to visit the school and talk to the children about what the school was like when they went to it.”

Photos will be scanned and returned, while people can email their memories to or give them in at the office to be photocopied or typed up.

Meanwhile, the school children will also be studying a decade per class.
