A PRIMARY school has demonstrated its on-going commitment to the health and well-being of pupils by launching a second walking bus.
The “bus”, which is sponsored by Endeavour Housing and bakers Greggs, brings around 25 children to St Cuthbert’s RC Primary School, in Hartlepool, every day from a breakfast club based at the Belle Vue Centre in the town’s Kendal Road.
The school’s other walking bus brings in pupils from the Oxford Road area.
Headteacher Jo Wilson said: “As a school, we have a strong commitment to promote a healthy lifestyle to our pupils.
“We fully appreciate the many health and safety benefits of children walking to school regularly and we are delighted to have been able to launch a second walking bus.”
The walking buses are also just one element of the school’s wider healthy lifestyles strategy that involves pupils playing a leading role in planning a range of initiatives.
Robert Snowball, Hartlepool Borough Council’s sustainable travel officer, said: “Walking regularly is good for children’s health and helps to ease traffic congestion outside schools.” Schools wanting more information about launching a walking bus can contact Mr Snowball on (01429) 523829 or firstname.lastname@example.org
