THE Boss is heading to the region following a huge coup for a football stadium.
Bruce Springsteen will rock the Stadium of Light in Sunderland along with his E Street Band on Thursday, June 21.
The gig is one of only three he will perform in the UK next year, the others taking place at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium and London’s Hyde Park.
The dates will be the first in the UK since the superstar headlined Hard Rock Calling in 2009 to huge critical acclaim.
Springsteen has sold more than 120m albums worldwide and earned numerous accolades for his work, including 20 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes and an Academy Award.
He is widely regarded as one of the most influential songwriters of the 20th Century.
The announcement comes just days after tickets for Coldplay’s gig at the Stadium of Light on June 7 went on sale, while the Red Hot Chili Peppers are also planning to rock the venue on June 24.
Maragaret Byrne, SAFC’s chief executive, said: “The announcement of the Bruce Springsteen concert is the icing on the cake of a fantastic summer of live shows at the Stadium of Light and we are hugely proud to be welcoming one of the world’s biggest music acts to Sunderland.”
The show will be the first time that Sunderland AFC has worked with the show’s promoter Live Nation, the world’s leading live entertainment organisation.
Tickets for the concert will go on sale at 9am on Saturday, December 3, priced from £55 (subject to booking fee).
A limited number of tickets for the Sunderland show will be on sale from the Stadium of Light box office. These will be for in-person purchasers only and will be available from 9am on Saturday, December 3.
