MOVIE star Timothy Spall was full of praise for Hartlepool after a brief visit to the town during a documentary charting his efforts to sail around the British coastline.
As previously reported in the Mail, Harry Potter star Spall docked his Princess Matilda vessel Hartlepool marina last summer during filming for the programme Spall at Sea.
The 51-year-old, who made his name in the 1980s hit Auf Wiedersehen Pet before going on to take key roles in Frank Stubbs Promotes and The Street, was joined on his voyage by wife Shane.
The pair’s trip to Hartlepool was screened last night by BBC Four, and showed them enjoying a trip around the Maritime Experience and then the Headland.
The couple had initially planned to remain in the marina for just one night after arriving from Newcastle, but high winds saw them opt to saty another night before heading to Whitby.
In their blog, the couple said: “Our first attempt to leave Hartlepool was aborted after one hour. It was grim out there, the North Sea does not take prisoners.
“There are worse places to be weathered in than Hartlepool Marina. What more can you ask for than a wonderful restaurant called Krimo’s that is right there on the lock. The waitresses were a delight!
“We would also like to send all the staff at Hartlepool Marina our thanks for making us so welcome and giving us a great send off twice, including horns and klaxons.”
