HARTLEPOOL United legend Joe Allon has been honoured by a street name on a new housing estate.

Allon is one of seven players and a former chairman to be honoured on the new Headway housing development, off Chester Road, in Hartlepool.

The streets have been named after the fans’ favourites as part of Pools’ centenary year, which the club celebrated back in 2008.

Ritchie Humphreys Drive was among the first signs to be erected and now Joe Allon Close has gone up.

The 1991 promotion hero scored an impressive 86 goals in 205 starts across two spells. Tommy McGuigan topped the poll, followed by Humphreys, Brian Honour, Micky Barron, Allon and Watty Moore while Kenny Johnson has had the entire estate named after him.
