A traditional summer fete next weekend will help get the holiday season under way in style.

The Billingham town centre management team has organised a range of traditional summer games, including Hook a Duck, Hoopla and a Coconut Shy.

There will also be fairground rides, a bouncy castle, and face painter on hand to entertain the whole family and children will be able to enjoy free pony rides.

Roberts Family Butchers will be running a barbecue for those wanting to make a real day of it.

Stockton International Riverside Festival will also be bringing some street theatre performances from Pif Paf to the town centre.

There will be three performances at 11.30am, 1pm and 2.30pm of ‘The Flycycle’, an interactive show that invites families to go on a journey aboard the famous travelling machine.

Simply find the departure lounge in the town centre and you will be whisked off on a journey with Captain Bigshot.

Tony Donnelly, town centre manager, said: “Our Summer Fete promises to be a real day out for the whole family.

“From our traditional fairground games to pony rides around the town square, it really will be a fun-packed afternoon.

“We hope members of the local community will come and join this free family-fun event.”

Organised by St Modwen, which owns and manages the town centre, the event is part of ongoing work to revitalise the centre.
