Many people managed to get to Hartlepool’s picturesque marina, the Fish Sands on the Headland and other coastal areas for the day as our pictures show.

Youngsters enjoyed the chance to cool off with an ice cream while others built sand castles.

Forecasters say that the heat will reach 24C today and will still stay in the 20s through Saturday and Sunday.

Monday however could be expected to drop as low as 13C.
