The misery just keeps on coming for Sunderland fans after it was revealed that the club’s supporters will travel the second longest cumulative distance to follow their team this season.

The Wearsiders are bottom of the Premier League table with just two points from six games.

Research from the JustPark parking app has uncovered that Black Cats fans will cover a total distance of 8,734 miles – but some consolation can be taken from the fact that supporters of rivals Newcastle United have to travel even further – 9,008miles.

Sunderland fans will spend more than 140 hours driving to and from away matches – an average round trip of seven hours, 26 minutes.

On average, fans of top-flight clubs will travel a total of five hours and 19 minutes per away game.

Sunderland’s defeat at Bournemouth is the league’s second longest journey – a round trip of 708 miles.

Newcastle’s trip to Bournemouth is the furthest away trip at 712 miles.
