FAMILIES came together to support a brave Hartlepool toddler battling two serious health conditions.

Friends and supporters touched by two-year-old Saphere-Jae Espley’s plight held a fun day to raise money for the youngster to meet Minnie Mouse at Disneyland when she is well enough.

The Mail previously told how Saphere-Jae is the only child in the world known to be battling a brain tumour and kidney problem at the same time.

She was diagnosed with the slow growing tumour in November, just weeks after being struck down by the kidney disorder that causes her body to fill up with fluid which has to be drained.

She underwent an emergency operation on the tumour, but surgeons were unable to remove all of it.

Her parents Natalie Wood, 27, and James Espley, 24, face an anxious wait for the outcome of a new scan soon.

Lots of families and children attended the fun day at Hartlepool’s Richardson Westgarth Sports and Social Club, in Winterbottom Avenue.

The day-long event featured face painting, airbrush tattoos, bouncy castle, hair braiding, balloon modelling, tombola and raffles, and children’s games.

The full amount raised is not known at this time.
