Two youths had to be pulled from the North Sea after they were spotted getting into difficulties.

A 999 call was made to HM Coastguard after the pair were spotted in trouble off the pilot station of the South Gare near Redcar at around 7pm yesterday.

Hartlepool’s RNLI crew were already training when they were sent to the scene by the Coastguard and helped them on board their boat.

They were taken back to land, where they were checked over by a paramedic and were then taken to North Tees Hospital.
