A TAXI firm is hoping to help a football club reach its season ticket target after announcing a deal to get supporters to and from matches.
Hartlepool United fans are currently snapping up season tickets after the club unveiled an attractive offer which will cost supoporters just £100 if 4,000 tickets are sold for the 2011-12 campaign.
And town firm Twenty3 Taxis has strengthened its links with the club by stepping in to help out fans who may struggle to get to Victoria Park as a result of the recent bus cuts.
Taxi boss Dave Hudson said: “It could be that supporters will be struggling for midweek games at The Vic if there is no bus running.”
“What we are looking at is putting on a 16-seater at the ground which will be going to Owton Manor via places like Oxford Road – and anyone heading in that direction can jump in.
“The idea is that we’ll have other taxis going to other places, such as West View and try to cater for as many supporters as possible.
“People may be paying £4 for a taxi on their own but with this system they might only need to chip in £1 if they share with other fans.
“We’ve got a fleet of 120 so we can easily cope with this sort of thing so it’s something we’d definitely like to trial at the start of next season and see how it goes.
“If it proves a success then we can also look at providing transport from villages outside of Hartlepool for people who want to get along to The Vic.”
Twenty3 Taxis has had a long association with Pools having backed the club’s youth team in recent years, and is further backing the season ticket scheme by sending out advertising text messages to customers.
Dave added: “It’s a great way to spread the word and we’re more than happy to support our local club and make sure as many people as possible hear about the great deal on season tickets.”
Pools Chief Executive Russ Green was delighted with the latest link-up between the two companies and says that Twenty3 Taxis’ help is greatly appreciated.
Mr Green said: “Dave and everyone at Twenty3 Taxis have been fantastic to this club and we can’t thank them enough.
“We’ve built a strong relationship with them in recent years and I think that shows with this brilliant support they are giving us both in terms of the season ticket promotion and the transport idea.”
