Visitors to Hartlepool can see a new film produced as part of a project to promote the town’s coastline.

Two coastal community teams were formed last year to help raise the profile of the Headland and Harbour area and Seaton Carew after the town was given £20,000 of government funding.

The money has been spent by the teams on a Coast project, which has included the making of a short tourism and marketing film which is being shown on a newly-installed screen at Hartlepool Railway Station.

A colourful mural has also been painted by a professional artist at the station, which is managed by Northern Rail.

The coastal community teams have also used the funding to produce a tourism and marketing brochure promoting the main tourist hotspots and heritage assets for both areas.

A report on the progress of the teams, that will be considered by councillors next week, states: “The Coast Project has been created by the teams within Hartlepool to promote links with the visitor attractions within sight of the coastline of the town.

“A short tourism and marketing film has been produced (including aerial drone footage) titled Coast covering the key natural and built assets within the coastline.

“The film is being shown at Hartlepool Railway Station, via a large LED screen, and is the visual equivalent of the Coast brochure.

“The information point incorporates a large LED screen, bought using project funds, and shows the marketing and tourism film to the travelling public.”

Hartlepool’s colleges have expressed an interest in making short films to show on the screen, which can be moved to other venues if needed.

The new brochure features contributions from RSPB Saltholme and the Heugh Battery Museum.

The council says it will be available in key venues including the railway station’s new information point area, as well as a digital version on the Destination Hartlepool website.

Maps of Interest leaflets highlighting key attractions and facilities in Hartlepool have also been made and are in the process of being distributed.

The coastal community teams are made up of representatives from the council, business sector including RSPB Saltholme and Middleton Grange Shopping Centre.

They are due to showcase the Coast project at a launch event later this month.
