The 13-year-old, who is a member of Hartlepool Catholic Boxing Club, triumphed in the championships in Sheffield.

She overcame her opponent in the final in a three-round bout at The English Institute of Sport.

Danielle, who is a pupil at High Tunstall College of Science, said: “This is the biggest thing I have won so far. I was just overwhelmed to win.”

She has been a member of the Catholic boxing club since around 18 months ago.

Danielle has done so well in a sport that not that many girls get involved in.

Her coaches are Paul Allen and Diane Winspear.

Danielle is one of around eight girls at the club hoping to emulate the success of town fighters such as Savannah Marshall (no relation), who won a gold medal in last year’s Commonwealth Games.

High Tunstall assistant headteacher Melanie Siddell said: “Danielle is very unassuming and a lot of students weren’t aware quite how talented she is.

“It has been a really positive thing to be able to promote within the school and Danielle has done so well in a sport that not that many girls get involved in.

“We are really pleased for her to be able to showcase her talent so well.”
