Teen singing sensation Leah Marie Sanderson is hoping to scoop a Best of Hartlepool award after being nominated for her impressive talent.

The youngster is well-known on the local music scene, performing numerous gigs across the region and in popular music venues in Hartlepool each month on top of her school work.

Sixteen-year-old Leah is the vocalist for band The Leah Marie Band and also performs solo. She was nominated for ‘Performer of the Year’ by members of the public, who felt her mature voice and commitment to music deserved recognition.

On her nomination Leah, said: “I am buzzing and quite surprised.

“I do gigs all over with the band and solo and have been doing quite a few.

“I am going to do music at Middlesbrough College and hope to become a big female vocalist.

“It’s really nice to be nominated, as when you are a singer you’re not sure whether people in the audience know how much effort goes in to it, and you’re not sure how the audience are going to react to you.

“It is a nice feeling.”

Leah, who lives in Billingham, was also finalist in the Soundwaves Music competition back in January, which saw her perform for crowds at the O2 Academy in Newcastle.

Her mum Tracey Sanderson, said she was delighted with her daughter’s nomination.
She said: “It is really good for her to be nominated and I am really delighted.

“Leah is starting to get recognised for her singing and it is really nice for someone to to that for her and put her forward.”

This year, the Best of Hartlepool competition is being held in association with Niramax and in which Specsavers, Stagecoach North East and Hart Biologicals are category sponsors. We are delighted to have every one of them behind us.

The deadline to put forward entries is Saturday, April 2. The finalists will attend an award ceremony at the Hardwick Hall Hotel, Sedgefield, on April 26.
