HOMEOWNERS are being reminded to lock garages and sheds after a spate of thefts.
Police say bikes, power tools and alcohol have recently been stolen from unlocked storage areas by opportunist thieves.
The thefts are said to have happened in the Bishop Cuthbert, Seaton Carew and Rossmere areas of Hartlepool.
PC Steve Davies, crime prevention officer for Hartlepool Police, said: "I would advise residents to keep garages and sheds secure at all times, and if possible, extend your house alarm to cover the garage or use a separate alarm for the garage or shed.
"Items such as pedal cycles, particularly high-value models, should be fitted with additional security and locked to a secure ground or wall bracket inside the garage."
