A CHARITABLE organisation donated more than £100,000 to help disadvantaged people in Hartlepool and east Durham last year.

The Lloyds TSB Foundation awarded £133,300 to good causes in the town in 2011.

The foundation’s generosity also spread to east Durham, where Shotton IT Centre was awarded £20,000 to help with salary costs.

The funding was part of an impressive £1.5m that was handed to 53 charities in the region.

The announcement coincides with the release of the foundation’s 2011 annual report, detailing an investment of £23.9m in supporting disadvantaged people to play a fuller role in society throughout England and Wales.

The foundation is one of only a few grant-makers that provide support towards much-needed core costs, such as salaries and rent, for small and medium charities and has announced that funding is available for charities in the Teesside area for 2012.
