CHILDREN’S charity Barnardo’s is urging Hartlepool people considering adopting consider providing a loving home for a child as Mother’s Day approaches.
Just over 3,000 children were placed with families for adoption last year in England, with 64,000 children across the country in local authority care.
But many are still in desperate need of an adoptive family or foster home.
Barnardo’s North-East assistant director, Julie McVeigh, said: “There are thousands of children out there who are looking for a mum and are desperate to become part of a loving family.
“The time around Mother’s Day, when we’re all thinking about the importance of family, is the perfect time to take that first step.
“To all the people in Hartlepool who may have thought about adoption, we encourage them to take that first step and get in touch with us.”
Barnardo’s has more than 100 years’ experience in successfully placing children with adoptive families.
The charity is particularly looking for people who can care for sibling groups, black and minority ethnic children, disabled children and those with challenging behaviour.
