THREE people were taken to hospital after a multi-car crash during rush hour.
Four cars were involved in the smash on the A179 Hart bypass, on the outskirts of Hartlepool, at around 5.15pm yesterday.
No-one is believed to have been seriously hurt, although one patient was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton, with a suspected broken arm.
The A179 was closed in both directions for almost two hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.
A Renault Clio, Mitsubishi, Peugeot 206 and Citroen C1 were badly damaged in the smash.
Firefighters from Stranton Fire Station, in Hartlepool, attended the incident, but all the drivers were out of the vehicles when they arrived.
They cleared debris and fuel from the road and left the vehicles in safe positions.
The North East Ambulance Service sent two ambulances and a rapid response paramedic car to the collision and police reopened the road at 7.30pm.
