PEOPLE have been proving that laughter is the best medicine in aid of Comic Relief.

Scores of jokers have been tickling their funny bones as part of a challenge set by The Shinwell Medical Group.

The group, which has branches at Peterlee Medical Centre and Horden’s Fourth Street, appeared in the Mail last week urging patients to send them their best Doctor Doctor gags.

Since then, dozens of people have posted their best rib-ticklers on the group’s facebook page.

The group will donate 10p for every joke to Comic Relief with a maximum of 5,000 jokes at £500.

Some examples of jokes posted include:

“Doctor Doctor, I feel like a dog”. ‘How long has this been happening?’ “Since I was a puppy”.

“Doctor Doctor, there is a strawberry growing out of my head!” ‘That’s easy just put some cream on it!’

To add to the charity spirit, staff will be greeting patients while wearing novelty red noses to mark the national day of fundraising which takes place today.

Deputy practice manager Hugo Minney said: “Thank you to everyone who has put jokes on our facebook page. We in the Easington district are definitely the funniest people!”

To leave your Doctor Doctor joke, search for Shinwell Medical Group on facebook and click on ‘Discussions’ to find the jokes page.

Gags will be counted up to midnight tonight.

l PICTURES from today’s Comic Relief events taking place across Hartlepool and east Durham will appear in tomorrow’s Mail.
