A TODDLER group set up by a group of mums has been given a prestigious award.
Funky Feet has been recognised by Investing in Children for the great work volunteers have done since it was founded eight years ago.
The Blackhall group was started by parents who were driving their children from the village to Hartlepool or further afield to take part in activities.
Now around 20 children a week use the service in Blackhall Community Centre, Hesleden Road, that is still run by mums.
Alison Paterson, a co-founder of the group, said: “We are very proud to receive this award. Hours and hours of hard work has gone into the group so we are pleased that has been recognised.
“We have children coming here from bumps to starting nursery and that has been really good for the community. It’s a meeting place for people and has brought people closer together.”
Investing in Children is an organisation concerned with the human rights of children and young people and supports adults and youngsters to improve their situations.
