A TOWN beauty is in the running to win a top title.
Hartlepool’s Rebecca Nichol, 19, is in the last 23 of Miss Sunderland 2011.
She came runner-up in the third heat of the contest, which was enough to keep her in with a shout of winning the crown.
Simon Robertson, organiser of the competition, said: “The standard of the girls was really high and I know the judges were quite torn.
“We must not forget that this is for charity too and I am hoping for a magnificent final.
“We hope to raise even more for our chosen charity Grace House North-East Children’s Hospice. It is a wonderful cause”.
The third heat took place in The Bridges shopping centre, in Sunderland’s city centre, where 18-year-old hometown girl Shannon Routledge was named Miss Bar Justice.
Rebecca was runner-up alongside Lauren Robinson, 18, from Sunderland, and Karina Belfield, 18, from Hebburn.
TV presenter Philippa Tomson will be hosting the final event along with Mr Robertson on Friday, May 20.
The winner will receive a stack of goodies and will go on to represent the city in the finals of Miss England.
