A HARTLEPOOL youngster rubbed shoulders with a soap sweetheart after strutting her stuff on the catwalk.

Eleven-year-old Katie Allan, who is a member of Val Armstrong School of Performing Arts, in Hartlepool, was picked to model High Street clothes at an event at The Mall, in Blackburn.

And as she strutted her stuff wearing outfits by New Look, River Island, BHS, Debenhams and Primark, Coronation Street actress Michelle Keegan, who was there to pull in the crowds and sign autographs, watched the town schoolgirl.

And after the show, Katie, a pupil at Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School in Seaton Carew, met the brunette star and they had their picture taken together.

Katie’s mum Nicola, 42, said: “Katie did some modelling at the same shopping mall last year and she was asked to go back again this year.

“Michelle Keegan was there signing autographs and then she met Katie and watched her do some modelling and had her picture taken with her and she got her autograph too. She was really nice.

“Katie was quite star-struck, she was completely over the moon. Michelle is now her favourite character in Coronation Street and she was asking if it was on on Sunday night when we got home!”

The modelling show was organised by Catwalk Model Management, based in Leeds, and was held at the mall from 11am on Saturday.

Katie and Nicola, of Harvester Close, in Seaton Carew, travelled down on the Friday night and stayed over.

Katie, who has been with Val Armstrong since she was just four-years-old, took part in five modelling shows.

Nicola, a service delivery manager, said: “She loves doing the modelling, she’s really confident. When she’s older she wants to be a dancer or a model, or anything she can possibly do.

“To do her modelling and then meet Michelle Keegan was just an added bonus really. She was chuffed to bits.”

Her performing arts teacher Val told the Mail: “Katie should be really proud, she’s a good all-round model, dancer and actress and she represents us and the town really well.”
