A HARTLEPOOL mum who was celebrating winning the battle for Christmas number one has another reason to smile after being short-listed for a top music award.
Sarah Clarke, 31, and her fellow performers in the Military Wives have ben nominated for a Brit Award for their single Wherever You Are.
Their single, also featuring Gareth Malone, sold more copies than the rest of the top 12 put together to take the top spot and there is even talk they could release an album.
They have been nominated in the best British single category alongside chart hits including the likes of JLS and Adele.
Sarah is a former Lynnfield Primary School and High Tunstall College of Science pupil who grew up in the Wooler Road area of Hartlepool.
The mum of 18-month-old Olly is married to Tom, 25, a Lance Corporal in the Royal Marines.
The event, to be broadcast live on ITV1, will also feature performances from Bruno Mars, Coldplay, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and Rihanna.
Blur will pick up the Outstanding Contribution to Music award at the ceremony at the O2 Arena on Tuesday, February 21.
Military Wives only got together last year to give the members something to do to pass the time.
The choir, from the Royal Marines Base Chivenor, in North Devon, then got expert tuition from musical maestro Gareth Malone.
Within a couple of months they were performing at the Royal Albert Hall, in London, and have since been invited to a number of high profile events.
They stormed to the Christmas number one spot comfortably beating acts such as X Factor winners Little Mix and festival headliners Coldplay.
All of the money raised by Military Wives will go towards the Royal British Legion and the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA).
