A teenager was jumping for joy after being unveiled as the winner of a national competition.
Gemma Marsey, 15, entered herself into a free prize draw to win an iPad at Pagan and McQuade Opticians, in York Road, Hartlepool.
Thousands of people across the country put their names in the hat at various opticians as part of the national Eye Love My Local Independent Optician campaign.
But Gemma, who lives in the Owton Manor Lane area of Hartlepool with mum and dad Susan and Norman, was the lucky winner.
The Manor College of Technology pupil is now the proud owner of an iPad.
“I couldn’t believe it when I found out I had won,” said Gemma,
“It was a complete surprise, I entered the competition but then didn’t really think any more about it.
“I will use the iPad mainly for the internet.”
Joanna Thomas, an optometrist at Pagan and McQuade Opticians, said: “It is very exciting that the winner of the free prize draw is one of our patients.
“Gemma has been visiting Pagan and McQuade since she was four and she is delighted with her win.
“I’m sure she will get hours of fun from the iPad.”
Youngsters are reminded of the importance of regular eye check ups ahead of the school term starting this month.
