POLICE have issued an appeal for witnesses to come forward after a schoolboy had to be cut free from an overturned car.

The 13-year-old boy had been the front-seat passenger in a Hyundai Coupe which flipped over before landing on its roof in Elwick Road, Hartlepool, near the junction with Kielder Road, as reported in the Mail yesterday.

The driver, a 38-year-old male was taken to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, with internal injuries and bruising.

The 13-year-old was also taken to hospital with a laceration to his leg and bruising.

Emergency services were called to the incident at 2.20pm on Sunday.

Any witnesses are asked to contact PC Tina Lackenby, of the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit, on the non-emergency 101 number, quoting reference number 136463.
