AN inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of a mum who was killed in a car crash.

Margaret Clay, 42, died when her car collided with a stationary lorry in a lay-by on the A19 near Hartlepool on Sunday.

Mrs Clay, of South Hetton, was declared dead at the scene.

The former District of Easington council worker’s 15-year-old daughter was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees in Stockton and later released.

An inquest into her death was opened by Hartlepool coroner Malcolm Donnelly.

He adjourned it until the results of a post-mortem examination and police crash investigation are known.

Mrs Clay, of Abbeydale Gardens, was married and until recently worked for Durham County Council.
