A motorist had to be cut free from her car after it left a County Durham road and hit a tree and bushes.

The accident happened on the B1283 at the roundabout going into Easington Village, at about 2.30pm today.

A crew from Peterlee fire station were called to the scene and cut the roof off the Ford Fiesta car to free the woman driver, who is thought to be in her 40s.

She was taken to hospital as a precaution, but did not suffer any serious injuries.
