Police returned to the scene on Coast Road yesterday where they put up witness appeal signs at the road side.

They particularly want to speak to three young people, possibly teenagers, who were at the scene just a few minutes after Jamie’s car crashed.

One of them, a boy with glasses aged around 16 approached a taxi driver and told him he had phoned for an ambulance.

The youth also told the driver he had approached the Seat Ibiza but had been unable to get to anyone inside.

The teenager was with two others, possibly younger, who were nearby.

Insp Ed Turner said: “Even if they did not see the actual crash, they may still have information which could help our enquiries.”

The Seat Ibiza driven by Jamie veered off the road as it left Blackhall Rocks and crashed through a set of concrete posts before it collided with a tree.

The couple died at the scene from their injuries.

Witnesses are asked to contact the force’s collision investigation unit on (0191) 3752159.
